Lyon: the city of lost baggage

Finally, we made it safely to Lyon. The drive from Paris was beautiful and fun, until we hit a toll booth that didn't take any of our credit cards, and the worker did not speak English. It took about an hour to figure everything out, in French, and that was our (hopefully) last encounter with the French government.

The French countryside.
My apartment in Lyon is nothing like what was described to me via the Internet. On the website, the apartment had two bedrooms, with beautiful double beds, a queen sofa sleeper in the living room, and air conditioner. It was wonderfully located, and we paid a little extra for all of the awesome amenities. Air conditioning is a LUXURY in France, and we sure paid extra for it.

Fast forward four months of e-mailing back and forth and paying the landlord, and I'm arriving in Lyon to a small, one-room apartment with no air conditioning, twin beds, with a great location. It is literally one room, with two twin beds, one chair, and SUPER hot. Needless to say, I was not a happy girl. After getting super sassy with the landlord, we are currently in the midst of finding a new place or sticking it out for 6 weeks. Stay tuned for that story.

A delicious expresso and cookie from some random French restaurant. Espresso is life.
The city of Lyon is much different than Paris (obv). Lyon is much more like the touristy part of New Orleans. Imagine a bigger Decatur Street, and that's Lyon. Timothy and I have done some serious walking and exploring, and have found a few restaurant gems. There are two H&Ms within walking distance, and my 150 EUROS have come in handy.

Speaking of my bag, it has still not arrived. American Airlines told me they would drop it off as soon as possible. I called yesterday, and VICTORY! they brought it to my apartment. Bad news? I wasn't there, so they brought it to the nearest post office. Even worse news? They don't know which post office, and there are over 100 in Lyon. So, I did what any sassy American girl would do: I wrote a very angry e-mail. American Airlines: get ready to have the WORST reviews written about you EVER.

Lesson learned: don't fly American Airlines and don't trust French apartment websites.

This lady was screaming something in French, and got fussed at. Glad I captured it.

The gargoyles at Norte Dame are SCARY!
